While laying on your left side the flexible endoscope, the thickness of a small finger, is passed through the mouth into the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Upper endoscopy is more accurate than x-rays for detecting abnormal growths and for examining the inside of the upper digestive system. Conditions diagnosed by endoscopy include cancers of the esophagus and stomach, ulcers in stomach and duodenum, esophageal and gastric varices, infections like candida and tuberculosis.
